AZ Coyotes to bid on state Land

With 110 acres of state-owned land in Phoenix, Arizona, now available for auction, the Arizona Coyotes have unveiled their ambitious plans to acquire the site and transform it into a cutting-edge sports, lifestyle, and entertainment district. In a bid to make history by establishing the first privately funded sports arena and entertainment precinct in Arizona, the Arizona Coyotes have thrown their hat into the ring for the bidding war over the prime parcel of land located at the northwest corner of Scottsdale Road and Loop 101, near the Phoenix-Scottsdale border. This transformative development, which is envisioned to be the long-term home of the Arizona Coyotes, is set to be a game-changer for the region.

Chairman and Governor of the Arizona Coyotes, Alex Meruelo, expressed his commitment to winning the land auction and spearheading the development of this groundbreaking entertainment district without relying on taxpayer funding. The project, which is estimated to cost over $100 million in infrastructure enhancements, is poised to redefine the entertainment scene in Phoenix while also contributing to public education funding through the proceeds from the auction. Furthermore, the Arizona Coyotes have pledged to invest heavily in infrastructure upgrades and open up vast tracts of land for potential future development.

The proposed Arizona Coyotes arena is designed to feature 17,000 fixed seats for NHL games, with the flexibility to add an extra 1,500 temporary seats for non-hockey events. Additionally, the site will include a practice facility, a live music theater accommodating 3,000 attendees, and a versatile watch-party plaza with large screens. The development will also incorporate luxury residences, office spaces, retail establishments, dining venues, and recreational amenities, all strategically positioned for convenient access along the Phoenix-Scottsdale border.

President and CEO of the Coyotes, Xavier A. Gutierrez, emphasized the significance of this transformative initiative, highlighting its potential to not only create a state-of-the-art arena but also establish a vibrant urban redevelopment project that will redefine the Arizona landscape. The project is expected to generate substantial economic activity, creating numerous jobs and driving billions in new spending over the coming decades, while also generating significant tax revenues for the City of Phoenix and Maricopa County.

Meruelo reiterated the team's dedication to Arizona and its loyal fan base, emphasizing the importance of providing a dynamic gathering place that will serve as a lasting landmark for the community. The envisioned entertainment district is poised to become a hub for unforgettable experiences and a testament to the Coyotes' enduring commitment to their supporters and the region at large.
